LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's golfer Da Sol Chung was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for February, the conference announced Thursday. It was the first monthly award for the freshman, who is the 12th-ranked individual in the country according to Golfweek.
Chung earned the accolade after she broke the UNLV record for low score in a 54-hole tournament, carding a 209 (-4) at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., back on Feb. 20-21. The Seoul, Korea, native finished third at the tournament, the highest finish of Chung's short Rebel career.
Chung opened the tournament with an even-par 71, but fired back-to-back rounds of two-under 69 to help UNLV finish sixth in a field that included 11 of the top 15 teams in the country. It was the fourth-straight time that Chung has finished in the top 10 and in five collegiate tournaments she has cracked the top 20. Her 72.0 stroke average is tops in the MWC.
The Rebels continue their spring season by hosting the UNLV Spring Invite, with the 54-hole tournament beginning March 13.
