Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV softball team (14-22) split its doubleheader with Missouri (18-12) on Monday night at Eller Media Stadium. The Tigers used a 4-0 lead in game one to push on for a 6-4 win. In the night cap, the Rebels picked up 13 hits to plate nine runs in a 9-6 win. The game two win snapped a 10-game losing streak and put UNLV in the win column for the first time since a 5-0 win over Detroit in Hawaii on March 10.
In the finale of the doubleheader, the Rebels notched 13 hits en route to picking up the win over the Tigers. UNLV outscored MU 9-to-6 and out hit them 13-to-8. The Rebels plated two runs in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth. Missouri scored two in the third, three in the fifth and one in the seventh.
UNLV jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run home run by Bri Bernardi to center. Kendall Fearn scored on the homer after reaching first on a one-out single to right.
MU evened the score with two runs of its own in the third with back-to-back singles and a two-run double.
The Rebels took the lead for good with three runs in the third. Brittany Bolinger began the offensive with an one-out single. Maggie Livreri pushed Bolinger to third with a single to right. Livreri took second on a passed ball. Shannon Crisp hit a sac fly to right to score Bolinger and moved Livreri to third. Rosa Ordaz brought Livreri home with a double to center. Ordaz came around to score on a single hit to left by Fearn, which the MU leftfielder misplayed and allowed for the extra base.
In the fourth, Britney Hillyer hit a double to left center and came around to score on Lauren von Holst's home run to left. The home run triggered a pitching change for the Tigers, but UNLV still scored two more runs in the inning with help from a single by Brittany Freight, a sac bunt by Bolinger, an RBI-single by Crisp, a single by Ordaz and an RBI-double by Fearn.
Missouri fought back to score three in the fifth on a three-run home run by Micaela Minner.
Becky McDonald came in to finish out the final two innings for Christie Robinson (5-8). Robinson gave up five runs (four earned) in 5.0 innings of work. She allowed six hits and struck out three. McDonald tossed the final two innings and allowed two hits and one run in the seventh.
In the first game, Missouri jumped out to a 4-0 lead with help from a two-run homer by Minner in the first and two runs in the fourth. The runs in the fourth were unearned as both scored with help from three Rebel errors.
UNLV closed within one after five innings of play with three runs in the fifth to bring the score to 4-3. The Rebels used four hits and one Tiger error to help plate those three runs. Bernardi reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a single up the middle by von Holst. Freight re-entered for von Holst and scored on a single by Bolinger that an errant throw to third base allowed for the run. Bolinger touched home on a single to left by Crisp.
MU took two runs back and extended the lead to three at 6-3 with a two-run home run by Janessa Roening.
In the seventh, UNLV tried to mount a comeback, but came up short. The Rebels got one across, but needed three to send the game into extras.
Crisp (6-11) took the loss for UNLV as she allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits in 3.1 innings of work. She walked three and struck out three. McDonald threw the final 3.2 innings of relief and gave up two runs on four hits.
The Rebels return to action on Tuesday, March 28, with a single-game against Missouri. First pitch is slated for 5 pm.
