TUCSON, Ariz. - The seventh-ranked UNLV men's golf team repeated its first-round performance with a 4-over-par 292 during the second round of play at the National Invitational Tournament on Monday at OMNI Tucson National (par 72, 7,148 yards) and dropped to 13th place, 22 shots off the lead.
UCLA remained in first place by shooting a second-round 3-under-par 285 and leads the field with a two-round total of 14-under 562. Arizona State is second after turning in a second-round 2-under 286 and is two shots behind the Bruins with a total of 12-under 564.
Host Arizona shot a 3-over 291 on Monday and TCU fired a 3-under 285 as both schools are tied for third place at 4-under 572 for the tournament. Tulsa fired a 2-under 286 and rounds out the top five at 2-under 574. UNLV's two-round total is 8-over 584.
Arizona State's Alejandro Canizares jumped into the individual lead after shooting a 1-under 71 and leads the field by one shot at 6-under 138 for the tournament. New Mexico's Jay Choi, UCLA's Erik Flores (the first-round leader) and Arizona State's Niklas Lemke are all tied for second at 5-under 139.
UNLV senior Andres Gonzales fired a second-round 3-under 69 and moved into a four-way tie for fifth place, two shots off the lead at 4-under 140.
UNLV sophomore C.J. Gatto shot a second-round 2-under 70 and is 1-over 145 for the tournament in a tie for 36th, freshman Seung-Su Han shot 2-over 74 and is 4-over 148 in a tie for 57th, sophomore Jarred Texter shot a 7-over 79 and is 7-over 151 in a tie for 65th and sophomore Matt Kinsinger shot an 8-over 80 and is 14-over 158 in 83rd place.
The tournament, which features 15 teams and 84 individuals, will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday.
