March 8, 2006

  • New Mexico is now 11-4 all-time in Mountain West Tournament games, and lost for the first time since the semifinals of the 2002 tournament to BYU (nine game winning streak snapped). The only other quarterfinal loss for the Lobos was in 2000, also to UNLV. UNLV is now 6-6 all-time in Mountain West Tournament games and have advanced to the semifinals the last three years.
  • UNLV became the first six-seed to win a Mountain West Tournament game, with the previous six seeds falling in the quarterfinals.
  • With the score tied at 44-44, UNLV used a 13-1 run over the final 4:37 of the game to pull off the 57-45 victory.
  • New Mexico sophomore forward Dionne Marsh has been in double figure scoring 26 times this season and 46 times in her career. She had double figures prior to the four-minute timeout in the first half and ended the game with a game-high 18 points.
  • UNLV closed the first-half on a 10-3 run over the final 6:00, with senior forward Sherry McCracklin scoring six of the Lady Rebel points during the stretch, ending the half with a game-high 11 points. She ended the game with 15 points, including a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
  • For the sixth time this season, New Mexico senior forward Abbie Letz has made at least three three-pointers in a game, finishing the contest with three triples, 11 points and 10 rebounds - for her seventh double-double of the year.
  • UNLV junior guard Kameca Simmons recorded a career-high with 8 assists. Her previous high was five on three different occasions. Her eight assists ties for the fourth most in a MWC Tournament game.
  • McCracklin became the fifth player in Mountain West Tournament history to have a perfect night from the free throw line (minimum seven attempts). She is also the third senior to accomplish the feat and the second from UNLV (RanDee Henry vs Wyoming, 2005).
  • UNLV is the only team in the Mountain West Conference to have defeated the Lobos twice this season, as the Lady Rebels defeated New Mexico in the final week of the regular season.
