Sadekar Snags Monthly Accolade

April 11, 2006

LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's golfer Seema Sadekar was named the Mountain West Conference Golfer of the Month for April after the junior won her first career medalist honors at the BYU Dixie Classic, the league announced today.

Sadekar won the tournament with a three-round score of 223 (70-77-76, +7) and her steady play helped UNLV win the BYU Classic (April 3-5) for a fourth-consecutive year. Sadekar was the first-round leader after she opened with a two-under 70 and then played solid golf the rest of the tournament to win the title. The past two years at the BYU Dixie Classic, she had finished second.

Sadekar started April by tying for 27th at the PING/ASU Invitational (March 31-April 2), carding a three-round total of 225 (74-79-72, +9) in helping the Rebels finished tied for sixth.

This is the first monthly award for the Stouffville, Ontario, native and for the season Sadekar ranks fourth in the MWC in stroke average with a 74.78 per round average. Sadekar's award marks the second time this year that a Rebel has earned the honor, as freshman Da Sol Chung won the February award.

Sadekar and the Rebels are now preparing to defend their back-to-back MWC Tournament titles as the league tournament will be played April 20-22 in St. George, Utah.
