May 19, 2006

LAS VEGAS - Former UNLV women's basketball standout Linda Fröhlich makes her return to the WNBA after a two-year absence, as she is on the Indiana Fever's opening day roster as they began the season on Saturday night against the Detroit Shock.

Fröhlich previously played two seasons for the New York Liberty, 2002-03, after being drafted 26th by the Liberty in the 2002 draft. She has also played overseas since her graduation from UNLV, including this past season, when she teamed up with current Fever teammate Tamika Catchings to lead Spartak Moscow to the FIBA Cup title.

One of just three Lady Rebels to have her number retired (#13), Fröhlich was a three-time honorable mention All-American for UNLV, and finished as the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,355 points. She is also the Lady Rebels' all-time career rebounder with 1,124, and was a three-time Mountain West Conference Player of the Year selection. She also earned National Freshman of the Year honors in 1998-99 after finishing sixth in the nation in scoring with 23.5 points per game, and her senior year she led UNLV to a NCAA Tournament at-large selection.
