Strong Second Round For Da Sol

COLUMBUS, Ohio - UNLV women's golf freshman Da Sol Chung climbed the leader board and is currently tied for 15th after two rounds at the NCAA Championships on Wednesday at the Scarlet Course at Ohio State.

Chung shot even-par on her round and she moved up 31 spots to help the Rebels improve by 12 strokes over their first-round score and UNLV is now in 20th with a total of 614 (313-301, +38).

Arizona State climbed to the top of the leader board following the completion of the second round, as the Sun Devils have a two round total of 586 (292-294, +10) with two rounds remaining. Duke is in second with a 589 (297-292, +13), USC fell out of the top spot and is in third with a 591 (291-300, +15) and Tennessee is fourth with a 593 (303-290, +17) after carding the best second round on Wednesday.

Eileen Vargas of Pepperdine extended her individual lead with her second-straight sub-par round and she now is at five under with a 139 (68-71). Vargas has a four-stroke lead over Jennifer Osborn of Arizona State, who is at one-under 143 (70-73) and they are the only players under par. Tiffany Chudy of Florida and Violeta Retamoza of Tennessee are both tied for third at even-par 144.

Seema Sadekar also had a strong day on the course for the Rebels, shooting a two-over par 74 on her round to move up into a tie for 49th with a two-day total of 152 (+8). Young Pak (79-79--158, +14) and Grace Woo (82-76--159, +14) are in a group that is tied for 97th while Elena Kurokawa (80-79--159, +15) is tied for 106th.

The four-round championship is being played on the Scarlet Course on the Ohio State University Golf Course. It is a par-72 course that measures 6,203 yards and it just finished a major restoration process overseen by Buckeye legend Jack Nicklaus.
