Fog Delays Open

June 29, 2006

NEWPORT, R.I. - UNLV women's golf freshman Da Sol Chung will have to wait a day to play in her first LPGA tour event, as the first round of the 61st U.S. Women's Open was canceled due to a heavy fog.

Fog covered the Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I. and never left on Thursday, keeping players off of the course the entire day. Players will play their opening round on Friday, with the second round on Saturday and the final 36 holes on Sunday.

Chung will tee off now at 4:11 (PDT) at hole one on Friday to open her round on the par-71 course. The 60 lowest scores and anyone tying for 60th place, or anyone within 10 strokes of the leader after the first 36 holes, will play in Sunday's final round.

Chung will become the second Rebel golfer to play in an LPGA tournament event, joining former UNLV great Sunny Oh, who played in the 2004 LPGA Takefuji Classic in Las Vegas, where she finished 49th.
