Results
UNLV women's golf played two solid rounds Monday to open its season and the Rebels are currently in fourth place at the 28th annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.
The Rebels were in second place after the first 18 holes, carding a one-under 291 on the par-73 Championship Course on the campus of the University of New Mexico. They followed that with an afternoon round of 298 (+6) for a total of 589 (+5) heading into Tuesday's final round.
Super sophomore Da Sol Chung picked up where she left off last season, opening with a two-under 71 and then a one-under 72 and is currently tied for seventh with a 143 (-3). She was one of three Rebels in the top 30 after two rounds and Chung is four strokes behind the leader.
Arizona State has an eight-stroke lead after the Sun Devils finished the day with a team total of 575 (-9) while South Carolina tallied a 583 (-1) and is the only other team under par. Texas A&M (585, +1) is third, followed by UNLV and then BYU (592, +8). Jenna Pearson of South Carolina has the individual lead, after she shot a six-under 67 in her second round to go along with an opening round of one-under 72 for a 139 (-7). She is just one stroke ahead a group of three players who are finished the day at 140 (-6).
Rebel freshman Natasha Krishna had a strong debut, finishing her two rounds with an even-par score of 146 which has her tied for 13th. She started her day with a one-under 72 and the capped it by shooting one-over on her second 18. Another newcomer, Kristin Ingram, is currently tied for 26th with a 149 (73-76, +3).
UNLV senior Seema Sadekar (75-77--152, +6) is tied for 43rd and Kasi Lee (81-76--157 +11) is tied for 72nd to round out the Rebel scorecard. Allison Chell is also playing in the tournament as an individual, and the junior is tied for 65th with a 155 (73-82, +9).
The tournament wraps up Tuesday and action begins at 8:00 a.m. (PDT) with a shotgun start and fans can follow the tournament live on www.golfstatresults.com.
