Final Stats
Fort Worth, Texas - The UNLV volleyball team (11-5 overall, 2-2 Mountain West Conference) notched its seventh 3-0 win of the 2006 season with its sweep of the TCU Horned Frogs (13-4, 2-2 MWC) in Fort Worth, Texas Friday night. More importantly, the win gives the Rebels a two-match winning streak and pushes their conference record to 2-2. The Rebels won by scores of 30-18, 30-23, 30-25.
The 3-0 win extends UNLV's winning streak to three straight over TCU dating back to the 2005 season. Overall, the Rebels lead the Horned Frogs 4-1.
UNLV out hit TCU .273 to .120, while the attackers racked up eight more kills (50-to-42), as well. The Rebels hit no worse than .250 in any of the three games, while knocking down a .333 in the first frame. The remaining two games registered identical .250s. TCU, on the other hand, hit its best tally in the second (.167), but hit .108 in the first and .083 in the third.
The Rebels were led in kills by Maria Aladjova for the ninth time this season, which includes seven straight matches. Aladjova was one of three Rebels with 10 or more kills, as she had 14. Brittani Lumsden had 12 and was closely followed by Erin Greenwood's 10. Michelle Banks notched eight kills and a match-high .583 hitting percentage.
For the second consecutive match Kristin Koochi was atop the team's assist lead. Koochi dished out 16 helpers for her teammates, but saw Melody Nua equal her total, as well. Jada Walker led the all defensive players with 14 digs, while Camille Cunningham had 13.
TCU was led offensively by Anna Vaughn's 15 kills and her .303 hitting percentage. Vaughn was the lone Horned Frog to tally more than seven kills, as four others had four. Nirelle Hampton had a match-high 36 assists. TCU had three players register 10 or more digs with Calli Corley notching 12 and Loren Barry and Lauren Otto tying with 10 apiece.
Next up for UNLV is a Saturday match in Albuquerque, N.M., at 6:00 p.m. Pacific. The Rebels will face New Mexico (6-9, 2-2 MWC) a day after the Lobos swept past San Diego State, 3-0.
