LAS VEGAS - UNLV men's tennis saw all three of its entries eliminated from the main draws during the third day at the Darling Memorial Tennis Center on Friday.
Top Rebel Elliot Wronski was ousted by Clancy Shields of Boise State, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the main singles draw.
In doubles UNLV's two teams won their Round of 16 matches before going down in the quarters. Wronski and Wesley Burrows, seeded fourth, were victorious over Idaho's Stanislav Glukhov and Andrey Potapkin 8-6. However, the top UNLV team was nipped by Paul Koenke and Eric Roberson of Boise State 9-8.
Luca Barlocchi and David Campbell also advanced with an 8-5 morning win over Cassidy Mears and Jonathan Sanchez of BYU before falling to Zach Ganger and John Taylor of Utah 8-4.
The only remaining Rebels in the tournament are Luca Barlocchi who won twice in consolation singles to remain alive, and Burrows, who will play one consolation match on Saturday.
No less than 17 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women are taking place over the last two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the November 1-4 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
