First Round Results
Playing in the first home tournament of her career, UNLV freshman Therese Koelbaek is tied for 10 th after the opening round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Open, which is being played at Angel Park Golf Club.
Koelbaek shot an even-par 72 to pace the Rebels, who shot 305 (+17) as a team on the par-72, 3,050-yard course and is currently tied for 14th.
Tennessee has the overall lead after 18 holes with a team score of 282 (-6) and the Lady Vols were one of three teams to finish under par as a team. The University of Denver (285, -3) is in second, followed by Arizona (287, -1). Marci Turner of Tennesse and Katie Kempter of Denver are tied for the individual lead in the clubhouse with blistering scores of five-under 67, while Tammy Clelland of Oklahoma State is in third with a four-under 68. There were a total of nine players who carded rounds of below par on the day.
Koelbaek opened her round with a birdie and then following eight-straight pars, she began the back nine with back-to-back bogies to fall to plus one. Following a par Koelbaek birdied 13 and then closed her round with five consecutive pars to finish at even par.
Fellow rookie Alejandra Guacaneme is next for the Rebels, as she is tied for 41st with an opening-round score of 75 (+3), Kasi Lee and Natasha Krishna are in a group that is tied for 74th with a 79 (+7) and Tonya Choate is tied for 86th with an 82 (+10).
UNLV also had two players competing as individuals as Melissa Mabanta is tied for 74th as well with a 79 (+7) of her own and Nicole McGirr is tied for 91st with a score of 83 (+11)
