Eight-Game Streak Ends Against Wolf Pack

RENO, Nev. - Nevada, Reno broke an eight-game losing streak to UNLV by handing the Lady Rebels an 84-63 loss in the Lawlor Events Center on Friday night. The loss for UNLV sent its record to 4-8 on the season, while UNR improved to 8-3 on the year.

The Wolf Pack jumped out to a double-digit lead just minutes into the game and never looked back, with a 44-27 halftime lead. UNR would lead by as many as 30 in the game. For the night, the Wolf Pack shot 54.8% from the floor, held UNLV to just 32.8%, and most importantly, forced 27 turnovers. That lead to a 33-8 advantage on points off turnovers, which was the biggest key in the outcome of the game. UNR recorded 15 steals in the game, while UNLV had just six, all in the final six minutes of the contest.

UNLV led just once, 2-1, but the Wolf Pack quickly took control, scoring 11 unanswered points. Mikail Price capped the run with a three-point play to make the score 12-2 with 16:50 left in the first half. With UNLV trailing 18-11, UNR used another run, this time a 12-0 spurt over a 4:48 span, to go up by a 30-11 advantage. The Lady Rebels closed to within 11 at 32-21, but again the Wolf Pack had a big run, 12-3, to give them their biggest lead of the half at 20, 44-24 with 24 seconds to play in the first half.

The closest the Lady Rebels came in the second half was 17 points on three occasions, the third on a layup by Sequoia Holmes with 13:57 to play, making the score 51-34. UNR put the game away with an 8-0 sport over the next two minutes, and the lead never went below 23 points until the final basket of the game, a three-pointer by UNLV's Kalie Scanlon.

Holmes was held to just 5-of-21 shooting from the floor, and finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Shamela Hampton also scored 17 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Scanlon scored a career-high 10 points off the bench, while Brittany Halberg posted nine points. UNLV held a 41-32 edge rebounding advantage, mostly due to a 21-10 edge on the offensive boards. The Lady Rebels finished making just 19-of-58 from the floor, were 3-of-15 from three-point range for 20%, but did make 22-of-29 at the line for 75.9%.

Four players posted double figures for UNR, with Dellena Criner scoring a game-high 22 points. Brandi Fitzgerald, Price, and Shavon Moore all scored 14 points as well.

UNLV will now return home to Las Vegas to play its last non-conference game of the regular season, on Sunday at 3 pm against Long Island in the Cox Pavilion.
