Coming off their third significant upset victory on the season on their home court, the UNLV women's basketball team will look to win two straight games for the first time in over a month when they host the Air Force Falcons on Sunday afternoon in the Cox Pavilion at 3 pm. A win over Air Force could move UNLV past San Diego State in the Mountain West Conference standings and keep alive their chances for a fifth-place tie in the final regular season standings. Air Force meanwhile is simply looking for its first-ever win in Las Vegas, as the Falcons have not only never defeated UNLV on its home court, they have been winless in three MWC Tournament appearances as well.
Though UNLV won the last seven games in Las Vegas against the Falcons by an average of 30 points, Air Force has been very competitive in MWC play this year despite its record, having defeated San Diego State two weeks ago while losing to current top-three teams Utah and New Mexico by eight and 10 points. However, all three of those games were in Colorado Springs and Air Force has lost its last 11 games away from home.
Shamela Hampton and Faye Muller dominated the first matchup, especially on the boards, and will look to do so again on Sunday, while Sequoia Holmes has made a much stronger impact recently in rebounding the ball as well. The key will be also be the play UNLV gets from its guards, as on Thursday night they combined for 44 of UNLV's 76 points in the upset of BYU.
