UNLV women's golf wrapped up its first tournament of the spring season with a 12th-place finish Tuesday at Wildcat Invitational at Arizona National as a difficult final round kept the Rebels from cracking the top 10.
The Rebels shot team a score of 931 (300-311-320, +79) on the par-71, 6,166-yard course that welcomed 15 teams, including 11 that are currently ranked in the top 25 of Golfweek's latest rankings. No. 2 Arizona State won the team title with a total of 868 (+16), finishing 8-strokes ahead of No. 4 Duke (876, +24) while No. 16 USC (881, +29) came in third. Amanda Blumenherst of Duke earned medalist honors with a three-round total of 210 (-3) and she was the only player to finish under par for the tournament.
UNLV senior Seema Sadekar paced the squad, shooting a final-round 74 (+3) to tie for 34th with a three-round total of 228 (+15). Sadeker had one birdie and four bogies in her final round, which was the best final 18-hole score for the Rebels on the day.
Rebel sophomore Da Sol Chung (229, +16) and freshman Natasha Krishna (229, +16) both finished in a group that tied for 36th. Chung entered Tuesday's final round tied for 14th but shot a closing 81 (+10) to fall out of the top 20.
Melissa Mabanta (250, +37) finished 73rd and Kasi Lee (258, +45) came in 77th to fill out Rebel scorecard for the tournament. Sophomore Nicole McGirr (262, +49) traveled with the Rebels for the first time and she finished 80th.
The Rebels return home and will host the UNLV Spring Invitational, a three-day event at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev., that gets underway on March 12.
