Following a disappointing loss at San Diego State on Thursday in which it shot 33% and turned the ball over 24 times, the UNLV women's basketball team will now play at one of the top teams in the conference looking to break a two-game losing streak. In face, UNLV has not won or loss more then two games in a row this season, but that streak could be broken on Saturday against the Wyoming Cowgirls, who currently hold a 15-6 overall record, and 6-3 in league play. The game will tip off at 1 pm (PST) in Laramie.
Both teams are looking for wins to help them in the conference standings, as Wyoming is just one win out of a three-way tie for second place. UNLV meanwhile is in a tie with San Diego State for seventh place, and will need an upset or two in order to finish ahead of the Aztecs this season.
UNLV already upset the Cowgirls once this season, in a 51-44 victory in Las Vegas on Jan. 11 in a nationally televised game on CSTV. In that game, the Lady Rebels held Wyoming to just 5-of-29 from three-point range, and took advantage of a strong overall defensive effort to pull out the win. Wyoming has won the last two games in the series in Laramie however, including last year's when it made nine three-point shots for a 55-51 victory.
For UNLV to pull out a win, it will need to continue to dominate the boards, as it has outrebounded its last three opponents by 18.3 rebounds per contest. The Lady Rebels also more importantly need to cut down turnovers, averaging 26 per game during its two-game losing streak.
