UNLV women's golf is tied for 11th after the opening round of the UNLV Spring Invitational, which is being played at Boulder Creek Golf Club and is the Rebels' last home tournament of the season.

The Rebels were one of four teams that shot an 11-over 299 on their round on the par-72, 6,199-yard course about 15 minutes south of Las Vegas. BYU has the overall team lead after the Cougars carded an eight-under 280, which set a tournament record as well. New Mexico is second with a 284 (-4) and Indiana is third with a 285 (-3) and those trio of teams were the only ones to break par on the day.

UNLV was paced by freshman Natasha Krishna, who carded a one-under 71 to tie for 10th after the opening 18 holes as she rolled in five birdies during her round. Krishna is one of eight golfers who were one-under on their round today.

The overall individual leader is Rachel Newren of BYU with a five-under round of 67 that included two eagles, four birdies and three bogies in her round. She eagled the par-4 seventh hole, which plays 375 yards, and then also eagled the par-4 10th that measured 338 yards. Jodi Ewart of New Mexico and Lehua Wise of New Mexico State are one shot back at four-under 68.

Rebel sophomore Kasi Lee matched her best round in her career with a one-over 73 on the day, playing solid golf with two birdies and three bogies on the afternoon. Earlier this year Lee shot a 73 in the final round of the Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Showdown this past fall at Anthem Country Club.

Da Sol Chung shot a five-over 77 and is tied for 60th, Seema Sadekar shot a six-over 78 and is tied for 71st and Melissa Mabanta carded a seven-over 79 and is tied for 78th to round out the Rebel scorecard.

Another highlight for the Rebels was the performance of Nicole McGirr, who was playing as an individual and recorded a career-low round of 75 (+3) and is currently tied for 38th. She had two birdies on her round.

The second round is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. (PT), with teams teeing off on holes one and ten.
