A bundled-up UNLV women's golf team battled unseasonably cool weather that created tough scoring conditions, as no team or individual finished under par after one round of the Indiana Invitational, being played at Crooked Stick Golf Club.
With temperatures in the low 40s, teams only played 18 holes of golf instead of the 36 that was schedule and the Rebels are 16th with a score of 327 (+39) on the par-72, 5,938-yard course. Natasha Krishna put together the best round of the day for the Rebels, carding a five-over 77 and is currently tied for 23rd.
Michigan State leads the 17-team field as the Spartans shot a combined total of 299 (+11) and is five strokes ahead of second-place Illinois, which shot a 304 (+16). Illinois golfer Seul Ki Park has the individual lead and was the only player to register a round of par with a 72 (E) to grab a two-stroke lead over a group of six players that are at two-over 74.
Krishna had two birdies on her round but also had five bogies and a double bogey in the difficult conditions and was the only Rebel in the top 25 after the opening round.
Melissa Mabanta and Kasi Lee are in a group that is tied for 54th with an 81 (+9) and Nicole McGirr is tied for 77th with a score of 84 (+12) to fill out the UNLV scorecard. Rebel senior Seema Sadekar withdrew from the first round of play on Monday.
The second and final round will start at 7:30 a.m. (PT) with a shotgun start and fans can follow the tournament live by clicking here.
