The No. 6 UNLV men's golf team had moved ahead of the cut line at the NCAA West Regional, but a tough closing stretch left the Rebels tied for 16th overall after Saturday's final round on ASU's Karsten Course.

As a team UNLV shot six-over on holes 16-18 to finish with a team score of 20-under 844 (281-281-282), missing the cut for the NCAA Championships for just the third time in the past 19 years. The low 10 teams and two individuals not on advancing teams moved on from the regional to the championship finals, and Wake Forest and East Tennessee State were the last two teams to advance with team totals of 25-under 839.

No. 36 South Carolina won the team title with a 44-under 820, which set the record for a 54-hole tournament on the par-72, 7,057-yard course. No. 4 UCLA finished two strokes back at 42-under 822, while No. 10 USC and No. 18 Arizona State finished tied for third with a 40-under 824. Medalist honors went to Benjamin Alvarado of Arizona State, who carded an 18-under 198 over the three rounds of play.

The Rebels were paced by sophomore Seung-Su Han, who finished tied for 30th with a 54-hole score of 8-under 208 (72-67-69). Right behind Han was junior Jarred Texter, who came in tied for 36th with a total of 7-under 209 (72-68-69). Han and Texter were the only two Rebels to record sub-par rounds on Saturday.

Eddie Olson came in tied for 71st with a score of 2-under 214 (68-74-72), CJ Gatto tied for 86th at 1-over 217 (69-76-72) and Brett Kanda tied for 118th with a score of 8-over 224 (78-72-74).

This year's regional marked UNLV's 19th consecutive appearance at an NCAA Regional and its 18th appearance in the West. UNLV's 2006 East Regional appearance was its only time in a region other than the West.
