UNLV Completes Second Round At Fall Preview

Sept. 25, 2007

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Complete Second Round Results

UNLV women's golf was paced by its three newcomers on Tuesday in the second round of the Margaret Branch NCAA Fall Preview, which is being played at the University of New Mexico Championship Course.

The Rebels posted a score of 308 (+16), which was seven strokes better than their performance in yesterday's first round and the team was led by Tonya Choate, Alejandra Guacaneme and Therese Koelbaek, all whom are making their Rebel debuts.

Duke, the first-round leader, remained in first as the Blue Devils have a team score of 573 (287-286, -11), which is four strokes ahead of second-place USC. Arizona State (582, -2) is third, followed by UCLA (585, +1) and Purdue (587, +3). Taylore Karle of Pepperdine kept her first round lead and will carry a one-stroke lead into tomorrow's final round as she has a 36-hole score of 138 (67-71, -8).

"It is certainly disappointing anytime you are at the bottom of the leaderboard," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "But we must remember that most of the teams here are in the top 30. I am extremely pleased with the play of our newcomers."

Koelbaek, a freshman from Denmark, posted another solid score today, a three-over 76 that came on the heels of her opening-round 75 (+2), as she played solid golf with one birdie and four bogies on Tuesday. She currently is tied for 44th with a 36-hole total of 151 (75-76, +5).

Just two strokes behind Koelbaek is another freshman in Guacaneme, who shot a four-over 76 for a 36-hole score of 153 (75-76, +7) and is currently tied for 56th. The other Rebel making her debut was Choate, who rebounded from a rough opening round to shoot a three-over 76 on Tuesday, a 10-stroke turnaround from the day before. Choate, a senior who transferred to UNLV from Division-II Drury University this summer, is currently tied for 87th with a score of 162 (86-76, +16).

Rebel sophomore Natasha Krishna is tied for 76th with a score of 157 (78-79, +11) and junior Nicole McGirr is 93rd with a total of 172 (90-82, +26).

Wednesday's final round is slated to start at 7:00 a.m. (PT) with a shotgun start and fans can follow the tournament live by CLICKING HERE.
