Sam Boyd Stadium was rocking when we beat Utah on Saturday night. It was an amazing game. Our team as a whole played together and very smart. There were a few mistakes that we made last week that were fixed and it showed on the field -- everything from Frank Summers running the ball well to Mil'Von James making some key pass breakups.
It was just all around well-played football. Singing the fight song in front of our home crowd felt great too. Students came up to a lot of us after the game and really showed an appricitation for us and it showed us how much our student body bleeds Rebel Red.
A scary thing that happened that night was our teammate and brother David Peeples had a rough night, being taken to the hospital to be treated for a pretty bad concussion. David is one of the funniest and toughest guys I know and he will come back from this and be a stronger person. I just wish he was there with us to enjoy the Gatorade shower that we all received while being in the locker room. One of the two game balls was given to him. We are all just glad to know that it was not a serious injury.
Once we won the game and sang the fight song, there was one thing in my mind that gave me the chills and that is...
"The Fremont Cannon"
When you arrive at UNLV as a freshman you learn one thing. How serious this game is to everyone, especially the seniors. The rivalry has been here for a long time and you learn to live it and love it. We play for the most expensive "trophy" in college football, but we play for something more important than that and that is Pride and Respect.
It is 1:30 am right now on Monday and I cannot sleep. I thought I would take a break and finish my entry in the morning but I just cant.
Unless you are part of this game and have played in it and gone through this roller coaster ride, it is hard to understand it. When you walk through Rebel Park you can see plaques up with the names of the seniors that have beat TUN and I want my name on one.
I remember sitting in the Lied Auditorium in 2004 as a redshirt freshman and Adam Seward standing in front of the team and talking to us about how much this game meant to him. That was a moment in my life where there was a spark inside of me and I got the chills. Adam spoke from his heart and that is what I think helped all of the young kids get a better understanding for this game.
I have been in on two victories and two defeats. Seeing the cannon at the Lied and walking by it every day and touching it brings great pride and I miss that. The cannon deserves to be Red. I hate to sound selfish and I think I speak for everyone, especially the seniors, but...
"I WANT IT BACK!"
We have worked way too hard, not to have it and I believe that the City of Las Vegas would like to see nothing less then us bringing it back. It would also be a great way for our football team to pay respects for Coach Ireland. I never got a chance to meet him but I know how much this game meant to him.
So I hope you all can make the trip to support us up North and if you are driving please have a safe drive and see you there.

This week's quote is about having Pride.
"Pride is a personal commitment. It is an attitude which separates excellence from mediocrity."
