* Rebels Welcome in CSU Bakersfield for Final Non-Conference Match of the Season
The Rebels continue their longest homestand since 1996, when they close out their non-conference schedule Friday at 7:30 with a tussle against Cal State Bakersfield. After Friday, the Rebels dive into conference play the following weekend with matches against Air Force and Denver. CSUB is in its reclassifying status with Division-1, after being D-II since its inception. The Roadrunners are in their first "transition" year, the second year of the five-season process.
* Lamar Neagle Named to College Soccer News National Team of the Week
UNLV's Lamar Neagle picked up his second national weekly honor of his career on Monday, as he was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week for the week ending Sept. 23. Neagle earned the honor after being involved in all three of UNLV's goals over the past weekend, as the Rebels earned a win and a tie in the UNLV Rebel Classic. Against regionally ranked Drake on Sept. 21, the Rebels were trailing by two with nine minutes to play, but Neagle scored twice in an eight-minute span, including one with 45 seconds left in the game, to tie the score and send it into overtime. He followed that up on Sept. 22 by setting up the game-winning score, when he dribbled through three defenders before passing off to Daniel Cruz who scored the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Missouri State.
* Rebels Continue Hot Play in UNLV Rebel Classic
UNLV, which is off to its best start since 2002, tied Drake 2-2 on Friday evening in a game that was delayed 40 minutes due to heavy rain and lightning. Drake scored the first two goals, but Lamar Neagle struck in the 81st and 89th minute to knot the score at two. Danny Cruz assisted on both goals, while Andrew Friel also was credited with a helper on the second tally. Against Missouri State, Neagle repaid Cruz for his good deeds the game before, assisting Cruz on the lone goal of the match. Calvin Bailey notched his second career clean sheet, making three stops.
* Scouting the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners
The Roadrunners, who are still in the Division-1 reclassifying stages, come to Las Vegas to take on UNLV for the first time in school history. CSUB is currently 2-5-3, most recently falling to San Jose State 2-0. The `Runners are led by goalkeeper Steve Trojanowski, who ranks fifth in the country in saves per game with 6.89. On the offensive side of the pitch, Towa Manda is the go-to guy for CSUB. Manda has scored four times this season, the only Roadrunner with more than one goal. Javier Barba, Robbie Gouk and Mike Esparza all have a tally and an assist on the year.
