LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's golf head coach Missy Ringler won the 2007 Nevada Women's State Amateur tournament by a single stroke on Thursday, outlasting Nicole McGirr, who is currently a junior on the Rebel squad.
Ringler finished with a three-round total of 227 (+11) on the Las Vegas Country Club course to earn her second Nevada amateur title. She won her first state medalist honors in 2003. Ringler shot a final-round 74, which was three strokes better than McGirr, who shot a final-round 77.
McGirr, who is from Henderson, Nev., and a graduate of Green Valley High School, carded a 54-hole total of 228 (+12) to finish second overall.
UNLV opens its season at the 2007 NCAA Fall Preview, held at the University of New Mexico Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M., on Sept. 24-26. The Rebels were ranked No. 29 in Golfweek's Preseason Poll and return four letterwinners from last year's squad.
