After having their first three shots stopped by Kenny, the Rebels got on the board with Ben Haugland's first goal of the season in the 16th minute (15:22). Haugland took control of Daniel Cruz's header and connected on a half-bicycle kick from 15-yards out off the right post.

Stephen Sifuentes subbed into the game with less than six minutes to go in the first half, but was able to up the Rebel lead to three with a little help from Kenny. Sifuentes received a pass from Daniel Cruz at the top of the box. Sifuentes miss hit his shot, but Kenny was unable to properly secure the ball and watched it trickle over the line.
The Hornets cut their deficit to two goals with a goal in the 53rd minute (52:03) on shot by Matt Foy from 10-yards out into the middle of the goal.
The Rebels pushed its lead back to three on Sifuentes' second tally of the night. Sifuentes took a shot from 24-yards out and deposited into the left side in the 54th minute (53:27).
UNLV out-shot the Hornets by a 16-to-9 margin. The Rebels put up nine in the first half and seven in the second, while Sacramento State managed four in the opening stanza and five in the final frame.
Once the Rebels put the game out of reach, the contest got a bit rough. The Hornets had three players pick up yellow cards, while UNLV had only one. In all, the Rebels committed five more fouls in the 90-minute affair (15-to-10).
Hawk Mummey picked up the victory in goal for UNLV, as he had a much easier match than his counterpart. Mummey made two saves and allowed only one goal. Kenny, on the other hand, made six saves, but let four balls get past him.
