PALO ALTO, Calif. - The UNLV women's golf team shot 13-over today and finished 14th overall at the Stanford Intercollegiate, which was played at the Stanford Golf Course.
The Rebels posted a team score of 882 (+30) over the 54-hole event and were paced by Therese Koelbaek, who shot even par on Sunday for a total of 215 (+2) to finish tied for 14th. Koelbaek and her teammates were competing in their toughest tournament thus far this season, as it featured 14 teams in Golfweek's latest top-25 poll.
"This was a field that is very comparable to what we will see at nationals," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "We need to be more consistent each day to get where we want to be. I thought Therese Koelbaek had a strong close to her tournament. We also need to get our freshmen more experience so they can get more confidence on the course."
UCLA won the team title with a score of 844 (-8), three shots better than USC. Lizette Selas of USC took home medalist honors with a 206 (-7), two strokes ahead of Caroline Masson of Oklahoma State, who entered the day with the individual lead but could not hold on.
Rebel junior Natasha Krishna cracked the top 40, finishing in a group that tied for 38th with a three-round total of 220 (73-70-77, +7) and sophomore Alejandra Guacaneme was not far behind in a group that tied for 48th with a score of 221 (70-77-74, +8). Kristen Schelling (76-75-83--234, +21) and Bethany Glassford (77-85-75--237, +24), both freshman, finished 80th and tied for 83rd, respectively.
UNLV was part of an impressive field that included No. 1 USC, No. 3 UCLA, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Vanderbilt and No. 9 Duke. A total of 16 teams competed in the tournament on the par-71, 6,117-yard course.
The Rebels will now wrap up their fall season by hosting the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, which will be played at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev., on Oct. 27-29
