LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's golf remained just outside of the top 25, coming in ranked 27th in Golfweek's latest poll, which is where the Rebels were in the preseason rankings.
Paced by the strong play of junior Natasha Krishna, the Rebels opened their season by finishing third at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. Krishna, who took second individually, finished with a 54-hole total of 214 (-5), coming up one stroke short of Jodi Ewart of New Mexico for medalist honors. UNLV posted a team total of 889 (+13), behind first-place New Mexico (872, -4) and second-place No.8-Pepperdine (876, E).
UNLV was one of two Mountain West Conference schools to appear in the rankings, joining No. 12 New Mexico. The top spot went to UCLA, followed by USC, Arizona State, Tulsa and Georgia.
The Rebels continue their season next week, traveling to the Windy City Classic, which gets underway on Oct. 6 and is hosted by Northwestern University.
