LAS VEGAS - For the second straight week the UNLV men's soccer team had a player earn weekly honors, as sophomore forward Daniel Cruz was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Brine Co-Player of the Week. This is Cruz's second weekly MPSF honor of the season, and along with teammate Lamar Neagle (who was named last week), they are the only players in the conference to have been named more then once this season.
Cruz, a native of Glendale, Ariz., scored the game-winner in UNLV's 2-1 win over preseason conference favorite New Mexico on Friday night. Cruz's goal came just 52 seconds after UNLV's first goal of the game, and the win would move the Rebels into a tie for second place in the MPSF.
With the goal, Cruz now has 13 points on the year (five goals, three assists), and is second in scoring in the conference, just one point behind teammate Neagle. He also has three game-winning goals this year after the score against the Lobos, and that ties him for first in the league as well.
UNLV (8-4-1, 3-2 MPSF) has the next two weeks off before returning to action on Friday, Oct. 31 at 6 pm against New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M.
