LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's golf team continues its fall season Monday, beginning play in the Windy City Collegiate Championships, which is being held the Evanston Golf Course in Skokie, Ill, just north of Chicago.
UNLV is currently ranked No. 27 in the latest Golfweek poll and is part of 13-team field that will play 36 holes on Monday and then finish with 18 holes on Tuesday on the par-72, 6,350-yard course. This is the first time that the Rebels have played in the tournament, and they are coming off a third-place finish at the season-opening Dick McGuire/Branch Law Firm Invitational.
Northwestern is the host of the tournament, and fellow Mountain West Conference-member TCU is in the field, as are No. 24 Arizona and No. 26 Purdue.
Rebel head coach Missy Ringler will have a lineup that features sophomore Alejandra Guacaneme, freshmen Bethany Glassford and Kristen Schelling, junior Melissa Mabanta and senior Kasi Lee.
UNLV will be playing this tournament without two of its top players, as junior Natasha Krishna and sophomore Therese Koelbaek are playing with their national teams at the 2008 World Amateur Team Championships to be held in Adelaide, Australia, on Oct. 8-11. Krishna will be playing for New Zealand and Koelbaek will be on Denmark's team.
Tee times begin at 5:30 a.m. (PT) on Monday and fans can follow the tournament live.
