The UNLV women's golf team is currently 12th following the first day of the Windy City Collegiate Championships, which is being held the Evanston Golf Course in Skokie, Ill, just north of Chicago.

The Rebels were led by freshman Kristen Schelling, who shot a two-round score of seven-over 151 with 18-hole scores of 77 (+5) and 74 (+2), and is currently tied for 16th heading into tomorrow's final round.

UNLV is playing this tournament without two of its top players, as junior Natasha Krishna and sophomore Therese Koelbaek are in Adelaide, Australia with their national teams at the 2008 World Amateur Team Championships, which will be held, on Oct. 8-11. Krishna will be playing for New Zealand and Koelbaek will be on Denmark's team.

"We knew it would be difficult replacing our top two players, but overall we didn't play well," head coach Missy Ringler said. "Our focus tomorrow will be to improve on our rounds from today."

Melissa Mabanta is the next Rebel on the leaderboard, as she is in 38th with a score of 156 (+12), while Bethany Glassford (162, +18) and Alejandra Guacaneme (162, +18) are tied for 52nd, while Kasi Lee (167, +23) is 63rd.

Purdue will carry the team lead into tomorrow's final round, with a 36-hole score of 591 (+15), good for a 12-stroke lead over second-place Arizona. Junthima Gulyanamitta of the Boilermakers leads the individuals with a six-under 138, which is five strokes better than Ellen Mueller of Oklahoma, who has a one-under 143.

Tee times begin at 6:00 a.m. (PT) on Tuesday and fans can follow the tournament live.
