First Round Results
ADELAIDE, Australia - UNLV women's golfers Natasha Krishna and Therese Koelbaek are representing their respective countries this week at the 2008 World Amateur Team Championships, which started today in Adelaide, Australia.
Krishna, a junior for the Rebels, is playing for New Zealand, while Koelbaek, a sophomore, is part of Denmark's squad at the four-day tournament. The tournament is being played on two different courses at the Grange Golf Club and includes a field of 48 international teams. Each country's team has three players, and the top two scores from each round are counted toward the team score.
Following today's first round New Zealand is tied for fourth with a team score of 147 (+3), but trails Sweden, which shot strong nine-under as a team to grab the first-day lead. Krishna opened her tournament with a six-over 78 on the par-72 West Course and is currently tied for 70th.
Koelbaek posted one of the better opening rounds of the tournament, rolling in a one-over 73 on the West Course with two birdies and three bogies and she is currently in a group that is tied for 10th. Overall as a team Denmark is tied for 13th with a score of 149 (+5).
