LAS VEGAS - Sunny Oh became the first former UNLV women's golfer to win a professional event, as she won the Bright House Networks Open this past weekend.
Oh, playing on the Duramed Futures Tour, shot a final-round 69 (-3) for a three-round total of five-under 211, which had her tied for first with Kim Welch and Chella Choi. She sank a 20-foot putt on the first playoff hole on the Cleveland Heights Golf Course in Lakeland, Fla., giving her the first win of her professional career.
Oh was one of the most decorated golfers in the short history of the Rebel program, playing at UNLV in 2003 and 2004. She was the 2003 Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, a two-time All-American, the 2003 NCAA West Regional Championship winner, the 2004 MWC Conference Player of the Year and a five-time collegiate winner, including the 2004 MWC Championship
"I am so excited for Sunny," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "She was one of the most talented players I have had the pleasure of coaching here at UNLV. I am sure this is the first of many victories for her."
