Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels lost a 14-6, Mountain West Conference contest to the Colorado State Rams on Saturday night at Eller Media Stadium. The Rebels held a 5-1 lead through three, but watched as the Rams scored 13 runs over the remaining innings to claim the game. UNLV drops to 25-35-1 overall and 5-11 in conference play, while CSU improves to 25-21 and 5-10, respectively.

CSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a single up the middle by Ashley Munoz. Caitlan Stem doubled to right field on an offering by Traci Odegard to get the frame going and took third on a grounder by Allison Majam.

The Rebels evened things up in the second when Laura Briones scored on an errant throw made on a ball put in play by Cheynah Farley. Briones began the inning with a single, off of Cayte Billman, before taking second on a sacrifice by Rosa Ordaz. Farley's grounder would have ended the inning, but Stem's throw was in the dirt and allowed Briones to tie the game at 1-1.

UNLV took its only lead of the game in the third when they scored four runs on three hits and got help from another Ram error. Jaci Hull and Ashli Holland began the inning with back-to-back singles. Both runners moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Brittany Meade. Hull put UNLV up 2-1 when Briones' grounder was misplayed by Julia Kloppe at first base. Ordaz then dealt a three-run blow to the Rams with a home run that cleared the fence in right field.

The Rams then rattled off eight unanswered runs over the fourth and fifth innings. Rebecca Penland got the offensive going with a solo homer in the fourth and ended Odegard's start in the circle. Lauren Cusick began the seven-run fifth with a solo shot that forced UNLV to bring Stephanie Bregante into the game in relief of Ashley Arnett, who had relieved Odegard. Majam and Robyn Mask provided more runs for the Rams, as Majam was responsible for one RBI, while Mask knocked in two. Sarah Sullivan delivered the big hit of the inning, as she stepped up as a pinch-hitter and nailed a three-run homer to left.

The Rebels got one run back in the sixth on a single through the left-side by Holland. Kim Klabough, who relieved Billman in the fourth, walked two to put runners at second and first for Holland.

CSU put five more runs on the scoreboard in the seventh to up its lead to 14-6. After loading the bases, Bregante allowed a single by Stem and a sacrifice fly to Majam to score runs, while Munoz followed with a three-run home run.

Klabough (9-10) picked up the win for CSU in 4.0 innings of relief. She allowed only one run on two hits, while striking out three and walking two.

Billman earned a no-decision in 3.0 innings of her start. She gave up five runs (three earned) on six hits.

Bregante falls to 12-16 in the loss. She threw 2.2 innings of relief and surrendered 10 runs on seven hits. She struck out three to five walks.

Odegard threw a combined 3.2 innings for a no-decision. She was touched for two runs on five hits.

Arnett recorded two outs in the game in middle relief. CSU recorded two runs off of three hits with her in the circle.

UNLV and CSU resume their MWC series with a game at 1:00 pm Sunday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium.
