Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (25-39-1 overall, 5-14 Mountain West Conference) dropped a 9-0, five-inning decision to the #19 San Diego State Aztecs (42-15, 14-5) on Friday night at Eller Media Stadium. The Aztecs took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning with help from two Rebel errors and never looked back as Christina Ross tossed a one-hitter for the visitors.
The Aztecs scored their first two runs of the game off an errant throw on a bunt-single by Tonye McCorkle and a sacrifice bunt by Erin Floros.
After a scoreless second inning, SDSU pushed its lead to 3-0 with a lone run in the third. Megan McDonald led off the frame with her second of three hits of the day, this one a double to right-center field. McDonald made her way home following an infield single and a fielder's choice.
UNLV registered its lone hit of the game off of Ross in the bottom of the third. Brittany Bolinger cranked a two-out triple to center, but was left stranded at third when the final out of the inning was recorded.
SDSU added six more runs to its lead with four in the fourth and two more in the fifth to go up 9-0.
Ross improves to 29-12 in five innings of work. She struck out five and walked two.
Traci Odegard suffered the loss and falls to 6-7 on the year in 3.0 innings of the start. She allowed seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits and two walks.
Ashley Arnett tossed the final two innings for UNLV and was struck for two runs on four hits. She fanned one Aztec to no walks.
UNLV closes out its regular season on Saturday with a 2:00 pm contest against the Aztecs at Eller Media Stadium. The game has been deemed "Senior Day" as the softball program will recognize its five seniors (Caitlyn Paus, Rosa Ordaz, Sandy Nakamura, Heather Slettvet and Stephanie Bean) that will finish out their careers.
