2008-09 UNLV Women's Golf Schedule

June 18, 2008

LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's golf released its 2008-09 schedule and two home tournaments highlight the slate, which includes four fall and four spring tournaments for the Rebels, the athletics department announced Wednesday.

"I am extremely excited about our upcoming schedule, as we continue to have the opportunity to play in some of the best tournaments in the nation," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "The ability for us to host two tournaments allows us to continue to strengthen our schedule."

The Rebels open the season on the road at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on Sept. 18-20, and the tournament will be played on the UNM Championships Course. UNLV will then play in the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Chicago, Ill., a tournament that is hosted by Northwestern on Oct. 6-7. The Rebels then travel to California for the Stanford Fall Intercollegiate on Oct. 17-19 in Stanford, Calif.

UNLV will then host the seventh-annual Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Oct. 27-19, the first of two tournaments that the Rebels will host. The tournament will be held at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. UNLV begins its spring slate at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., on Feb. 22-24 and then will travel to the Pepperdine Invitational on March 2-3 in Los Angeles, Calif.

The Rebels will then host the fifth-annual UNLV Spring Invitational on March 9-11, which will also be played at Boulder Creek Golf Club. It will be the fifth consecutive year that the Rebels have hosted two tournaments in a season, and the first time that both events will be held at the same course.

The Rebels will then travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Mountain View Collegiate Invitational on March28-29, which is hosted by both Colorado and Colorado State. That will bring a close to the regular season for UNLV.

"I have found it really important to have a schedule secured that allows us to compete with teams in other regions," Ringler said. "The selection for the NCAA tournament has gone to the national rankings, so it is very important for us to play as many teams as possible."

The MWC Championships will also be held at the Fort Ord Golf Course in Monterey, Calif., on April 16-18. The NCAA Regional tournaments are set for May 7-9 while the NCAA Championships are May 19-22 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owning Mills, Md. UNLV is coming off a 16th-place finish at the 2008 NCAA Championships, the best in program history, and the Rebels return four players from that lineup, including honorable mention All-American Therese Koelbaek.
