Rebels Claim Fifth Victory Of The Season

Sept. 12, 2008

Box Score

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - UNLV sophomore forward Ashleigh Shoughro scored her fourth goal of the season in the 80th minute to give the Rebels a 1-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in the first game of the New Mexico Nike Classic on Friday afternoon in women's collegiate soccer action. The win pushed UNLV's record to 5-1-1, while the Knights dropped to 3-3.

The Rebels dominated the game in every category, but were held in check for most of the game by FDU goalkeeper Megan MacKellar, who would make six saves in the contest. The Knights needed every one of those stops as the Rebels owned a 22-10 edge on shots in the game, including 13-4 in the first half.

The winning score came when MacKellar misplayed a goal kick that Shoughro intercepted, and she sent off a blast from 15 yards out into the net for the score, her second game-winner of the season.

UNLV's Alicia Lugo came up with six saves to make her fourth shutout of the season. UNLV held a 9-2 edge on corner kicks, and were also called for 11 offsides to just one for FDU.

The Rebels will close out play in the UNM Nike Classic by taking on No. 24 Milwaukee on Sunday at 9 am PST.
