LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's golf tees of its 2008-09 season at the 29th-annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, with the first round set for Thursday at the UNM Championship Course.
The Rebels return a talented group of six letterwinners while welcoming in four newcomers to this year's squad, which will be under the direction of Missy Ringler, who is entering her seventh season as head coach. Ringler and assistant Amy Bush will have a lineup that features returning All-American Therese Koelbaek, junior Natasha Krishna, sophomore Alejandra Guacaneme and freshmen Kristen Schelling and Bethany Glassford. Rebel senior Kasi Lee will also make the trip and will be playing as an individual.
Koelbaek is coming off a sensational freshman season in which she was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year, led the league in scoring average and shared medalist honors at the NCAA West Regional. She was a Golfweek Honorable Mention All-American and also won the USF-Richmond Country Club Invitational, becoming the first Rebel to win two or more events in a single season since Sunny Oh won twice during the 2003-04 season.
UNLV will be part of a 16-team field that includes the host and 19th-ranked Lobos as well as No. 8 Pepperdine and No. 23 TCU as well as Mountain West Conference members BYU, Colorado State, San Diego State and Wyoming.
The Rebels should feel right at home on the par-73, 6,167-yard course, playing the layout three times last season. Tee times begin at 7:00 a.m. (PT) on both Thursday and Friday, while Saturday's final round is a shotgun start that also starts at 7:00 a.m.
