Neagle, Rebels Tie Up Dons

Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The UNLV men's soccer team nearly came up with a big win on the road, but still came out with a tie as the Rebels played San Francisco to a 1-1 double-overtime score on Friday night at the BMW/Nike Classic on the USF campus. It was the first tie of the season for UNLV, pushing its record to 4-2-1, while the Dons improved to 0-4-1.

Though USF has not won a game yet this year, it also has allowed just one goal total in all five of its games this year. That defense was on show tonight, as it held the Rebels to a total of five shots over 110 minutes, including none in the first half. UNLV got on the scoreboard early in the second half however, when Lamar Neagle tracked down a deflection and sent a shot to the top corner of the goal for the score, his third of the year, and a 1-0 lead.

That goal nearly held up for the entire game, but the Dons countered in the 86th minute on a score by Conor Chinn, who scored on a short shot following a scramble for the ball in the box. That sent the Rebels to an overtime game for the second straight contest. USF dominated the offense in the extra time, with an 8-1 edge on shots, but the Rebel defense held to earn the tie score.

For the game, USF held a 18-5 advantage on shots, and 5-4 edge on corner kicks. Hawk Mummey made four saves in net for UNLV, while Don goalkeeper Jeremy Coupe posted one.

UNLV will finish play in the BMW/Nike Classic on Sunday, when it faces St. Mary's at 2:30 pm.
