NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The UNLV women's soccer team (3-1-1) suffered its first loss of the season on Friday afternoon, as Cal State Northridge scored an early second-half goal to claim a 2-1 victory from the Matador Soccer Field.

CSU Northridge, who remained perfect at 4-0 this year, scored the day's first goal in the 16th minute, when Tryna Tafoya recorded her second score of the year for a 1-0 lead for the home team. Kelly Ross was credited with an assist on the goal, as Tafoya scored off a rebound of a Ross shot.

UNLV tied the game in the 35th minute, thanks to a score from Brianna Moore, her second of the season. The goal came when Niki Connolly was in the box with the ball and tapped it to Moore, who sent a shot that beat the Matador keeper to the right for the goal, which made the score 1-1.

The Matadors would open the second half with a quick goal coming from Farryn Townley, an unassisted score in the 47th minute for a 2-1 lead, and that goal would hold up as the game-winner. Townley collected a long pass that landed past the Rebel backline, and she made a move past the UNLV keeper before sliding in a shot for the score. UNLV did have its chances in the second half, getting off six shots, but could not come up with a tying goal.

Alicia Lugo posted three saves in the net for UNLV, while Matador goalkeeper Leah Elliott also finished with three saves.

UNLV will return to action on Sunday with its second straight road game, a contest at Long Beach State at 12 pm.
