LAS VEGAS - The No. 22 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round even-par 288 on Sunday and finished in second place at the season-opening Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, which was played at the Eisenhower Golf Club's Blue Course (par 72, 7,301 yards) in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The Rebels finished with a 54-hole total of 16-under 848, 11 shots back of team champion Colorado State, which won the title with a tournament-record 27-under 837. The Rams shot a final-round 11-under 277. UNLV and CSU were the only two teams under par at the 17-team event. Washington State finished third at 1-over, followed by New Mexico (+5) and Weber State (+7).
Colorado State's Bryce Hanstad shot a final-round 5-under 67 and won the tournament by three shots with an 11-under 205. Teammate Riley Arp finished second at 8-under 208.
UNLV was led by junior Eddie Olson who shot a final-round 3-under 69 and finished third at 7-under for the tournament. Junior Brett Kanda and sophomore Ji Moon were the other Rebels who finished in the top 10. Kanda shot a final-round 72 to finish eighth at 2-under, while Moon shot a final-round 75 to finish tied for ninth at 1-under.
Other Rebel players: senior Seung-Su Han finished tied for 12th after a final-round 72, sophomore Jeremiah Wooding, who played as an individual, finished tied for 34th at 5-over 221 after a final-round 75 and freshman Colby Smith finished tied for 39th at 6-over 222 after a final-round 77.
UNLV will be back in action, September 26-27, at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M.
