Stanford Intercollegiate Round One Results
PALO ALTO, Calif. - UNLV women's golf freshman Ellis Keenan shot a 1-over 72 to lead the Rebels, who are 11th following the first round at the Stanford Intercollegiate Championship, which is being played at the Stanford Golf Course.
Keenan recovered from a double-bogey start to roll in five birdies and is currently tied for 24th, helping the Rebels post a team score of 10-over 294 on the par-71, 6,117-yard course. The 71 was the lowest round of Keenan's collegiate career and the third-lowest round of the season by a Rebel.
"Overall I felt we played pretty solid golf today," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "We left a few shots out there on the par fours. That was a great round today for Ellis and we really enjoy this golf course, so I know we can put together two good rounds over the weekend."
UNLV senior Natasha Krishna and junior Therese Koelbaek are one-shot back, posting scores of 2-over 73, and they are in a group that is tied for 34th after 18 holes of play. Alejandra Guacaneme is tied for 53rd with a 5-over 76 and sophomore Bethany Glassford is tied for 64th with a 7-over 78.
Third-ranked Arizona State has the team lead with an 11-under 273 as the Sun Devils have a pair of players who are tied for fourth at 4-under 67 to help their team to a four-stroke lead over UCLA after one round. The individual leader is Madison Pressel of Texas, who shot a 6-under 65 and has a one-stroke lead over Marina Alex of Vanderbilt and Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State.
The Rebels are in a field that includes four of the top 10 teams in the nation according to Golfweek, including top-ranked USC, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Arizona State and No. 7 Cal. In addition, No. 12 Oklahoma State, No. 15 Stanford, No. 18 Denver and No. 25 Vanderbilt are also competing, putting a total of eight top-25 squads in the 15-team field.
