PALO ALTO, Calif. - UNLV junior Therese Koelbaek shot a 2-under 71 during Saturday's second round to get back to even par overall at the Stanford Intercollegiate Championship, which is being played at the Stanford Golf Course.
Koelbaek rolled in three birdies to go along with one bogey, and she is currently tied for 14 th with one round to play with a two-round total of 142 (73-69, E). The Rebels shot a second-round 297 (+13) and they have an overall team score of 591 (+23), which has them in 11th place.
"Therese had a breakout day," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "That was great to see from her. Overall we are ready for round three tomorrow. We know we have to play better and we have a great opportunity to finish in front of some highly-ranked teams in what is a really great field."
UNLV freshman Ellis Keenan is tied for 33rd with a 147 (72-75, +5), senior Natasha Krishna is tied for 45th with a 150 (73-77, +8), junior Alejandra Guacaneme is tied for 56th with a 152 (76-76, +10) and sophomore Bethany Glassford is tied for 72nd with a 157 (78-79, +15).
Third-ranked Arizona State has the team lead with a 13-under 555 as the Sun Devils have four players in the top 10 individually to give ASU a seven-stroke lead over UCLA. Marina Alex of Vanderbilt and Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State are tied for the lead with a two-round score of 5-under 137 with 18 holes to play.
The Rebels are in a field that includes four of the top 10 teams in the nation according to Golfweek, including top-ranked USC, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Arizona State and No. 7 Cal. In addition, No. 12 Oklahoma State, No. 15 Stanford, No. 18 Denver and No. 25 Vanderbilt are also competing, putting a total of eight top-25 squads in the 15-team field.
