Final Stanford Intercollegiate Results
PALO ALTO, Calif. - Following a one-hour delay due to fog, UNLV women's golf junior Therese Koelbaek fired her second straight sub-par round and finished tied for eighth at the Stanford Intercollegiate, which was played at the Stanford Golf Course.
Koelbaek carded a 1-under 70 during Sunday's final round, rolling in five birdies to go along with four bogies, and it capped a tournament that saw her steadily move up the leaderboard against one of the fall's toughest fields. She finished with a 54-hole total of 1-under 212 (73-69-70), and Koelbaek's finish was the best by a Rebel this season.
UNLV was in a field that featured four of the top 10 teams in the nation according to Golfweek, including top-ranked USC, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Arizona State and No. 7 Cal. In addition, No. 12 Oklahoma State, No. 15 Stanford, No. 18 Denver and No. 25 Vanderbilt were also competing, putting a total of eight top-25 squads in the 15-team field. Koelbaek helped the Rebels to a team total of 894 (294-297-303, +42) and a 13th place finish overall at the three-day tournament.
"I am very happy with Therese's play," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "She loves this golf course and a top-10 finish in this strong field is great. It should give her some momentum and confidence heading into our home tournament."
UNLV freshman Ellis Keenan tied for 33rd with a 220 (72-75-73, +7), senior Natasha Krishna tied for 60th with a 230 (73-77-80, +17), junior Alejandra Guacaneme tied for 65th with a 232 (76-76-80, +19) and sophomore Bethany Glassford finished 75th with a 238 (78-79-81, +25).
Third-ranked Arizona State won the team title with a 12-under 840 as the Sun Devils had four players finish in the top six overall, powering ASU to a four-stroke victory over UCLA. Jennifer Song of USC took home medalist honors with an 8-under 205, one shot better than Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State.
UNLV returns home and will close out the fall portion of its schedule by hosting the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, a three-day tournament at Boulder Creek Golf Club that gets underway on Oct. 26.
