LAS VEGAS - Seattle's Ian Walsh headed in a goal with less then 50 seconds remaining in the second half as the Redhawks stunned UNLV 2-1 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon from Peter Johann Memorial Field.
SU (2-8-1, 1-1 MPSF) notched the day's first goal in the 19th minute, when Ed Walugembe drove down the right side of the field, dribbled into the box and blasted in a shot from 12 yards out for a score, putting the Redhawks up 1-0. UNLV (6-4-2, 0-2 MPSF) would tie the game in the final minute of the first half thanks to a score from Nicholas DeLeon, his first of the year. Taylor Bowlin assisted on the score, as he sent in a cross form the right side into the middle of the box where DeLeon came in unmarked and sent a hard shot to the left side of the net, making it 1-1 in the 45th minute.
Both teams took four shots in the second half, but with less then a minute before the contest would have gone to overtime, Troy Bratten served up a cross from the right side high into the box. Walsh leaped up for the ball, and headed the ball to the far left post for the game-winning score in the 90th minute.
Seattle held a slight 9-7 edge on shots, while UNLV took the only corner kick of the game. Both goalkeepers, UNLV's Roland Swanson and SU's Ivan Dizdar, were credited with two saves each for the afternoon.
UNLV will return to action on Friday, Oct. 23, when it takes to the road to face Denver in a 6 pm (PST) contest.
