LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's golf team will play its final tournament of the fall, hosting the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, a three-day tournament that gets underway Monday at Boulder Creek Golf Club in nearby Boulder City.
The Rebels, who will field two teams, are part of a 16-team field that features three teams in Golfweek's top 25 rankings in No. 14 Florida, No. 19 Louisville and No. 22 Arizona. The rest of the field includes Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Idaho, Kent State, Minnesota, Missouri, Northwestern, TCU, Texas Tech, UC Davis and Washington.
"We are very excited to once again be hosting a tournament at Boulder Creek," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "It is a great venue for women's golf. We are prepared and ready to have a great tournament."
Ringler will field a lineup of senior Natasha Krishna, juniors Alejandra Guacaneme and Therese Koelbaek, sophomore Kristen Schelling and freshman Ellis Keenan. The Rebels other squad playing in the tournament will be made up of senior Melissa Mabanta, junior Mandi Incorvaia and sophomores Bethany Glassford, Victoria Oros and Stephanie Whatley.
Boulder Creek was the host of last year's showdown, and the Rebels turned in record-breaking performances, headlined by Koelbaek. She finished tied for second with a 16-under 200 (68-66-66), which tied for the second-best round in NCAA history and shattered the Rebel tournament scoring record. Koelbaek opened with a four-under 68, then closed with back-to-back rounds of 66 (-6), which were the lowest rounds in school history, leading the Rebels to a fourth-place finish and a school record score of 19-under 845.
Pepperdine ran away with the team title in 2008, setting the NCAA record with a team score of 41-under 823 that featured four players finish the tournament at six-below par or better. Leading the way for the Waves was Lisa McCloskey, who set the NCAA individual record with a 17-under 199, as she turned in rounds of 67 (-5), 65 (-7) and 65 (-5).
Monday's first round is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 a.m. (PT), and live scoring will be available courtesy of Golfstat by CLICKING HERE.
