BOULDER CITY, Nev. - UNLV junior Alejandra Guacaneme shot par for the day to pace the Rebel women's golf team during Monday's first round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, which is being played at Boulder City Golf Club.

Guacaneme is tied for 22nd following the opening 18 holes, and she was the only player for UNLV to shoot par as the Rebels are tied for 12th with a team score of 8-over 296. Guacaneme played steady golf, rolling in two birdies against two bogies while paring the rest of the holes on the par-72, 6,233-yard course.

No. 19 Louisville shot a team score of 5-under 283 and has a slim one-shot lead over No. 22 Arizona and UC Davis. Alice Kim of UC Davis and Kelli Shean of Arkansas share the individual lead after one round of play, as each opened with a 5-under 67, one stroke in front of Kasey Claussen of Colorado State.

"It was a bit of a disappointing start, but there is a lot of golf left to be played," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "I am really happy with Alejandra's round. She was really solid. We need to go out tomorrow and have a strong showing in round two."

Rebel freshman Ellis Keenan nearly reached par, shooting a 1-over 73 which has her tied for 32nd, while junior Therese Koelbaek shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 44th. It was at this tournament and course last year that Koelbaek set several school records by shooting a blistering 16-under 200, which is the second-lowest round in NCAA history.

UNLV sophomore Kristen Schelling got off to a fast start and was 3-under at one point in her round, but a difficult back nine left her with a score of 5-over 77, which is tied for 70th. That is the same score as senior Natasha Krishna recorded as well today.

The second team that UNLV fielded in the tournament is being led by sophomore Bethany Glassford, who shot a 1-over 73 and is in a group with Keenan that is tied for 32nd. The Rebel `B' team is in 18th place with a score of 18-over 306. Stephanie Whatley (76, +4) is tied for 62nd, Mandi Incorvaia (77, +5) is tied for 70th, Victoria Oros (80, +8) is tied for 88th and Melissa Mabanta (82, +10) is in 91st place.

The Rebels are part of a 17-team field that features three teams in Golfweek's top 25 rankings in No. 14 Florida, No. 19 Louisville and No. 22 Arizona. The rest of the field includes Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Idaho, Kent State, Minnesota, Missouri, Northwestern, TCU, Texas Tech, UC Davis and Washington.

Tuesday's second round is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 a.m. (PT), and live scoring will be available courtesy of Golfstat by CLICKING HERE.
