Windy City Collegiate Classic Team Results
GLENVIEW, Ill. - UNLV junior Therese Koelbaek finished in the top 20 and the Rebel women's golf team finished in ninth place Tuesday at the Windy City Collegiate Classic, which was held at the Glen Club in Glenview, Ill.
Koelbaek rolled in a pair of birdies on her way to a third-round 2-over 74, giving her a 54-hole total of 221 (+5) and a 17th place finish, and she carded her team's only sub-par round of the tournament yesterday with a 1-under 71. UNLV finished with a team total of 900 (302-295-303, +36), one stroke behind eighth-place Iowa State.
"I am really proud of Therese's play this week," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "Plus five on this golf course under some tough conditions is great."
Purdue was the only team below par and won the tournament for the second year in a row with a total of 4-under 860, good for a 14-stroke victory over Tulane. The Boilermakers were led by Maude-Aimee LeBlanc, who took home individual honors with a 5-under 211, one stroke better than Ashley Bauer of Michigan.
Rebel senior Natasha Krishna (72-75-79--226, +10) finished tied for 32nd, Alejandra Guacaneme (76-77-75--228, +12) tied for 42nd, Kristen Schelling (78-77-75--230, +14) tied for 47th and Ellis Keenan (80-72-84--236, +20) finished 65th overall.
UNLV (No. 37) was in a field of 15 teams that included eight in Golfweek's Sagarin Top-50 rankings. The others were defending champion Purdue (No. 14), Arizona (No. 16), New Mexico (No. 17), TCU (No. 28), Tulane (No. 30), Iowa State (No. 49) and Illinois (No. 50).
UNLV's next tournament will be the Stanford Intercollegiate, held at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif., on Oct. 16-18.
