EL PASO, Texas - UNLV senior golfer Eddie Olson is tied for 20th after the first two rounds of play Monday at the 35 annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic. Olson shot an opening-round 1-under-par 70 and a second-round 1-over 72 for an even-par total of 142.

The tournament, which is hosted by the Sun Bowl Association and includes 32 All-Americans from last year, is being played at the par-71, 6,837-yard El Paso Country Club.

Olson, who earned honorable mention All-America honors as a junior in 2008-09, is the 17th Rebel golfer to participate in the All-America Golf Classic. His opening round consisted of four birdies and three bogeys and his second round was made up of five birdies and six bogeys.

Wichita State's Dustin Garza leads the tournament by two shots at 11-under 131. He shot 7-under 64 and 4-under 67 on the day. Alabama's Hunter Hamrick and Oklahoma State's Morgan Hoffmann are tied for second at 9-under. Two golfers are tied for fourth at 8-under.

The 32-player field is the largest in the history of the event. In 2005, 31 players competed in the tournament. The 2009 edition features last season's NCAA Division I Player of the Year Matt Hill (North Carolina State) and the Freshman of the Year (Hoffmann), as well as the Division III Player of the Year Mitchell Fedorka (La Verne). Also included in the field are six Golfweek preseason first team All-America selections - Hill, Hoffman, Nick Taylor (Washington), Russell Henley (Georgia), John Peterson (LSU) and Scott Langley (Illinois).

Each university is awarded a $1,000 scholarship if a golfer from that school competes in the tournament, which will conclude on Tuesday, Nov. 24 with 18 holes.
