Military & Law Enforcement Honored Thursday

Dec. 14, 2009

LAS VEGAS - UNLV Runnin' Rebel basketball has teamed with community members to help support local military and law enforcement personnel.

Las Vegas Rotary Club (led by president Karen Whisenhunt), Dan Anderson and Craig Miller of The Anderson-Miller Group at Morgan Stanley, and Paul Powell, Esq., of the Powell Litigation Group have teamed together to purchase and donate 5,000 tickets to be used as part of the "Project Noise" celebration Thursday as the UNLV Runnin' Rebels take on Weber State at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The tickets were donated to Nellis Air Force Base and various local law enforcement organizations to allow servicemen and women - and their families - as well as representatives from local law enforcement - and their families - to attend the game.

"This is a celebration of those who protect and serve our country and our community," said UNLV head coach Lon Kruger. "The idea was presented to us by members of the community who wanted to do something special to honor these special men and women at this time of year. This is one of those partnerships where everyone wins."

In-game entertainment for the evening will feature a "Project Noise" celebration including a special anthem performance, color guard, "Lights, Please" and a short halftime program.

"We want this to be a special night at the Thomas & Mack Center for all involved," said Jerry Koloskie, interim director of athletics for UNLV. "We hope this will be an important celebration, not only for UNLV Athletics, but for all of Las Vegas."

Sheriff Douglas Gillespie of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the celebration means a great deal to the men and women in uniform.

"It's amazing the impact a simple `thank you' can have on people," Gillespie said. "It's safe to say there have been some tough times recently for all those being honored - both in the military and in law enforcement. This community celebration means more to those men and women who serve than you might realize. We are humbled and honored to be a part of the evening."
