BOULDER CITY, Nev. - UNLV women's golf used a steady final round Wednesday to keep Texas Tech at bay and win the team title at the 2009 UNLV Spring Invitational, which was played at Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Carrying a slim two-shot lead into today's final round, the Rebels posted a team score of one-over 289, the same as the Red Raiders, giving UNLV the championship with a three-round total of 884 (312-283-289, +20). The title marks the second time that UNLV has won its own spring tournament, and it is the first tournament the Rebels have won this year.

Georgia had a pair of players tie for medalist honors, as Mallory Hetzel and Marta Silva recorded totals of two-under 214 on the par-72, 6,234-yard course.

UNLV had a trio of players finish in the top 30, lead by junior Natasha Krishna, who came in fourth with a 54-hole score of even-par 216 after she shot a final round two-under 70, her second consecutive sub-par round. Krishna was part of a Rebel group that closed strong, as the four players whose scores counted today played the final three holes at five under, ensuring a UNLV victory.

"It was a great team effort today," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "I am so proud of everyone. We played the final three holes exactly like we needed to."

Rebel sophomores Therese Koelbaek (81-69-72--222, +6) and Alejandra Guacaneme (75-71-76--222, +6) finished in a group that tied for 13th and rookie Kristen Schelling (79-74-74--227, +11) was in a pack that tied for 29th. Another freshman, Bethany Glassford (82-81-73--236, +20), came in tied for 64th, but she posted her best round of the tournament, a one-over 73 that helped UNLV earn the team title.

The UNLV `B' team finished in 18th place with a team score of 950 (+86) and that squad was being led by Melissa Mabanta , who tied for 61st with a 235 (81-78-76, +19) while Kasi Lee (83-78-79--240, +24) and Nicole McGirr (82-79-79--240, +27) were in a group that tied for 72nd. Stephanie Whatley (80-80-81--241, +25) tied for 76th and Victoria Oros (92-82-75--249, +33) came in 93rd.

The Rebels have a little over two weeks off now before traveling to the Mountain View Collegiate, which is being hosted by Colorado and played in Tucson, Ariz., on March 28-29.
