TUCSON, Ariz. - The UNLV women's golf team is in second place following two rounds of play at the 11th-annual MountainView Collegiate, which is being played at MountainView Golf Course.
The Rebels have a team score of 578 (291-287, +2) and trail leader San Jose State (571, -5) by seven strokes heading into tomorrow's final round. UNLV is nine strokes ahead of third-place Louisville, thanks in large part to three players currently sitting in the top 20, including Therese Koelbaek (T-4th) and Kristen Schelling (T-7th) in the top 10.
"It is a good start for us and we came in here playing with a lot of confidence," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "I believe we will be fighting for the win during the final round tomorrow."
Koelbaek is sitting at three-under 141 after she carded rounds of 68 (-4) and 73 (+1) on the par-72, 6,263-yard course, and she is one stroke off the pace of the leaders, a trio of players who are four-under heading into the final round. Schelling is just three strokes behind the leaders heading into the final 18 holes after she shot rounds of two-over 74 and three-under 69, totaling a two-round score of one-under 143.
UNLV junior Natasha Krishna is also in the top 20 after two rounds, currently sitting tied for 19 th with a two-round total of 147 (+3) following rounds of 74 (+2) and 73 (+1) on Saturday. Alejandra Guacaneme (79-72--151, +7) is tied for 38th and Bethany Glassford (75-80--155, +11) is tied for 60th to round out the Rebel five.
Sunday's final round gets underway with a 7:00 a.m. shotgun shot for the 19-team field, and the Rebels will be looking to win their second tournament of the year, as they won the UNLV Spring Invitational earlier this March.
